Cadence, Country, Silence

Night catch in the Atacama

is Brancusi’s sleeping muse.

My dad’s panama hat

is extinct.

Bats swim face down

swaying in the sea. The note

between silence and sound

scatters on a chalk cliff.

Mind the gap

while I push a self-portrait

through my teeth —

I’m learning the wind by heart.
